Is Massage Therapy covered by OHIP? No, Massage Therapy is not covered by OHIP, however most patients have it covered throught their extended health care plans.

Do I need a doctor's note to come for a treatment? No, you do not need a physician's referral to see a RMT, however you may need one for your extended health insurance company to insure reimbursement. Call your provider to find out. You may also want to ask what type of coverage you have in regards to maximum limit and percentage of treatment paid.

How can I find a RMT in my area? You can use RMTFind.com, in association with the Ontario Massage Therapists Association, to search a specific RMT to satisify your needs.

Is there any time when Massage Therapy is not recommended? In some cases, Massage Therapy may not be appropriate, thus a trained and experienced RMT will evaluate your needs and concerns. Certain circulatory ailments, infectious diseases/conditions, certain forms of cancers, cardiac problems, skin conditions and inflamed conditions may be worsened by Massage Therapy, so be sure to consult your physician before initiating massage treatments.

What can I expect during my first treatment? Your first Massage Therapy session will consist of an overall evaluation by the RMT including a medical history and patient complaints. See our "What to Expect" section for more specific answers.
